Black and Skabuddah are an acoustic duo originally from NYC. Early in their career, their original band opened for many major acts before they started their acoustic act 18 years ago. Russ Scavelli has performed with a wide range of artists including the bass player for Jimi Hendrix and world renowned musician/composer David Amram. Together with Laura Black, they have won numerous songwriting contests including Julie Gold’s (From A Distance) Women in Music award, a Billboard award, Nashville Songwriters Award and were asked to perform their interpretation of a Joni Mitchell song at her CD release party at The Bitter End in Greenwich Village. In 1997, they moved to Key West, Florida, won the Key West/ASCAP Songwriters Contest and were awarded a publishing deal from Mac McAnally (Jimmy Buffett’s producer) and Ralph Murphy (ASCAP Nashville President). You can find them performing 4-5 days a week at well-known Key West venues. They’re music has been described as acoustic rock with an edge. Russ’s guitar playing is unforgettable and he’s currently playing guitar with the Paul Cotton Band (from the band POCO). Laura Black’s throaty vocals are unmistakable and she also plays guitar and percussion. Their repertoire consists mostly of classic rock and original music. They’re known for their upbeat and lively performances at many of the most famous and popular Key West venues including Conch Republic Seafood Co., Sloppy Joes, La Te Da, Margaritaville, Rick’s, Rum Barrel, Capt. Tony’s Saloon, Sugarloaf Tiki Bar, Lazy Gecko, Finnegan’s Wake, Geiger Key Marina, Hyatt’s Blue Mojito Bar and Hog’s Breath Saloon.
